Job Summary
As a Director, Software Engineering you will be part of the People Technology team within Walmart Global Tech. We are defining the leading edge of technology to provide innovative solutions to our business customers to help support the millions of Associates employed at Walmart.
As part of Compensation domain, we have embarked on an exciting journey of modernizing and transforming the Compensation and Total Rewards platform which supports the 1.6M US associates and international associates across 22 countries with their compensation, bonus and equity vesting every year.
What you will do
- Influence, coach, and be a servant leader to multiple integration teams focused on transformative products within our People Technology space.
- Builds strong and trusting relationships with the business stakeholders with more engagement, collaboration, and facetime beyond the 4ITB meetings.
- Provide guidance in applying the right architectural pattern for the modernization of the applications by analyzing the gaps between existing architecture and new business requirements.
- Drive automation using more adoption and maturity on the CICD stage gates for the applications.
- Drive implementation of telemetry features based on the domain requirements to improve the overall operational excellence of the application.
- Knowledge of Software architecture, Distributed systems, Scalability, Design patterns, Disaster Recovery.
- Technical leadership in building a complex microservices based platform or product that are highly reliable, and scalable.
- Drive technical impact analysis, conduct RCAs with corrective actions for both short & long term fixes and prevent them from re-occurring.
- Develop close partnerships with our Product, People API, and Workday teams to drive innovation as we deliver on commitments to our business customers.
- Operating with excellence – Set an example in managing to KPIs, delivering excellence, presenting at all levels, and developing yourself and others.
- Analyze system performance impacting the complete product for non-functional requirements like reliability, operability, performance efficiency and security.

What you'll bring:
- Deep working knowledge of all aspects of Cloud native distributed system development. Azure/ GCP/ WCNP preferred.
- Technical Proficiency in one or more of the languages such as Java, Python, React Native, Node JS, React JS, GraphQL
- Experience working on a compensation or total rewards platform
- Experience working with micro-services architecture and distributed systems.
- Experience in all areas of engineering including DevOps, Chaos Engineering, SRE, and on-call rotations to assure service availability and operational excellence.
- Experience managing software development engineers, leaders, architects and leading engineering projects, guiding engineering teams on engineering excellence & solid system design.
- Experience in 360º people management, growing & grooming teams and to ensure the happiness and productivity of the team’s software engineers.
- Experience partnering with cross-functional project development and in collaborating with other scrum teams, QA, Release Management, Program Management, and TechOps.

Minimum Qualifications (Manager's Ideal Candidate Must-Haves (skills required))
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and minimum 10-12 years’ experience in software engineering Or master’s degree in computer science or related field and 8-10 years of work experience
- Minimum 5-7 years of people manager experience (including managing leaders) in driving and retaining a high-performance team.
- Minimum 6-8 years of experience building highly scalable, high performance, responsive software Applications.
- Highly technical hands-on and an effective people leader
- Proven industry experience with large scale distributed systems
Preferred Qualifications (Manager's Preferred Qualifications (3-5 "nice to haves")
- Experience working in any Compensation, total rewards platforms.
- Experience building resilient Tier 0 production system operations (logging, telemetry, alerting etc.)
- Attitude to thrive in a fun, fast-paced start-up like environment.

- Has ambition and vigor to add value to a rapidly growing development team.
