A tremendous career opportunity is currently available for a dynamic and successful business development professional to join the Haynes Boone Business Development team (BD team). The successful candidate will work with the Business Transactions Department on a wide range of business development projects, primarily in a strategic support role.
The following practice groups are in the Business Transactions Department: Capital Markets and Securities, Employee Benefits and Executive Compensation, Energy, Estate Planning, International, Investment Management, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity and Tax. Given the global nature of these practices, the Business Development Manager will also have periodic responsibilities related to the firm's initiatives in China, London, Mexico and greater Latin America.
This individual primarily will focus on the Capital Markets and Securities, Mergers & Acquisitions, and Private Equity practices and will be an important part of our BD team, working closely with our lawyers and other BD team members to accomplish the primary goal of helping our transactional lawyers attract and develop profitable new business from existing clients and target clients. This role will be directly supported by a full-time Business Development Coordinator and Business Development Specialist.
Significant responsibility and autonomy will be afforded candidates who demonstrate independent judgment, strategic and diplomatic thinking, and the ability to function effectively at several levels. The position will report to the Senior Business Transactions Business Development Manager.
Essential Duties- Help develop and execute group business development strategies, plans and projects.
- Assist in identifying and evaluating new business opportunities and targets, facilitating cross-selling initiatives, participating on client-specific target teams, maintaining sales pipeline, and supporting deal/matter tracking.
- Support some of the BD team's RFP/RFI/proposal/pitch opportunities.
- Assist with the integration of lateral partners with a special focus on target priorities.
- Manage the maintenance and support of deal tracking for Capital Markets and M&A league table submissions and listings such as Chambers publications.
- Stay abreast of current developments and trends impacting clients and prospects through proactive market research. Work with the firm's Competitive Intelligence team in securing actionable intelligence on clients and prospects.
- Work with the firm's Media Relations team to secure effective exposure in the media for the group, its leading lawyers and accomplishments.
- Ensure group business development and marketing initiatives are being executed at the local, regional and national levels.
- Coordinate and manage some of the team's events, sponsorship activities, advertisements, speaking engagements, etc., in conjunction with the firm's Events Specialists.
- Develop and manage some of the Department's business development budgets.
- Assist lawyers with successful business development strategies/techniques.
- Assist Practice Group leaders in the execution and implementation of the group's strategic plans.

Reporting RelationshipThe Business Development Manager reports directly to the Senior Business Transactions Business Development Manager.

QualificationsKnowledge/Experience
7 or more years of business development / marketing experience required. Law firm or professional services experience preferred. Strong computer proficiency a must, with particular knowledge of InterAction, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and a variety of leading edge competitive and business intelligence tools, such as Foundation. An insatiable intellectual curiosity and a desire to become completely immersed in the business of the group(s) assigned to the individual.
Skills
Strong writing, proofreading and verbal communication skills. Flexible and organized with the ability to deal with many different personalities, multiple demands, and the pressure of meeting deadlines. Strong work ethic and clear understanding of client service and working as a member of a team. Ability to multi-task and thrive in a fast-paced environment is a must. A sense of urgency, ability to efficiently manage time and attention to detail are required.
Education
Bachelor's degree required preferably in Business or Marketing.
Physical DemandsRemains stationary at least 75% of the time. When coordinating/attending special events, might be required to move around up to 100% of the time. This position constantly operates computers, printers and other office productivity machines (e.g., fax machine, copier, etc.) Occasionally required to move documents or files weighing up to 15 lbs. This position requires constant communication and exchange of information with the firm attorneys, vendors, clients and staff. This position must be able to inspect and observe information on a computer screen at least 80% of the time.
Working ConditionsOffice environment. Work frequently requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position. Periodic travel required.
