Position Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial records of the organization. This role requires a deep understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and regulatory compliance specific to the nonprofit sector. The Controller will work closely with the CFO to develop and implement financial strategies that support the organization's mission and goals. This position has hybrid flexibility after 90 days.
Responsibilities:- Financial Management:
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger management.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Manage the annual budget process, working with department heads to develop and monitor budgets.
- Prepare financial reports for the Board of Directors, senior management, and external stakeholders.
- Monitor cash flow, banking relationships, and investment portfolios.
- Implement and maintain financial policies and procedures that comply with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Lead the preparation and coordination of the annual audit and IRS Form 990 filing.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including charitable registration and tax filings.
- Maintain internal controls to safeguard the organization's assets and ensure the accuracy of financial data.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure timely and accurate audits and filings.
- Grants and Fund Accounting:
- Manage grant accounting, including tracking restricted funds, preparing grant reports, and ensuring compliance with grant requirements.
- Oversee the allocation of expenses to various programs and funds to ensure accurate reporting of restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Collaborate with development and program teams to provide financial support for grant proposals and reporting.
- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor finance staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
- Foster a collaborative and results-driven environment within the finance team.
- Provide training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the finance team.
- Strategic Planning:
- Work with the CFO to develop long-term financial strategies that align with the organization's mission and goals.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making by senior leadership.
- Participate in organizational planning and development initiatives, offering financial perspectives and recommendations.
$100,000 - $120,000 a year
