Collins Aerospace is seeking an Chief System Engineer for the Open Communications Solutions Products Team located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This organization is responsible for leading system development of next generation Open System Architecture solutions which include open standards compliant modularity for high levels of reuse between products and the ability to rapidly deploy new mission critical capabilities to the warfighter. As a Chief System Engineer, you will be part of a multi-functional team comprised of System engineers, FPGA, Software, and Hardware engineers.
The candidate will have opportunities to work directly with our military customers, engineering and program management teams that are leading experts in their fields. There are immediate needs to provide solutions and support for both U.S. and International customers. Successful candidates will be responsible for performing under limited supervision all tasks normally associated with the Systems Engineer discipline, including bid and proposal work, concepts of operation development, requirements definition, model-based system engineering, system architecture definition, and verification/validation.
Primary Responsibilities:- Ownership of technical leadership, design, development, and verification/validation of Open Architecture Solutions across multiple domains and customers.
- Technical understanding of solutions, system architectures, open standards, and SW/HW/FW components and their reapplication between different open architecture solutions
- Develop and lead design approach, technical roadmap, architecture review, and customer technical exchange meetings
- Ability to clearly communicate design overviews, strategic implications, and associated briefings with senior executive leadership.
Qualifications/ Experience Needed: - Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start dat
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
- Additionally, individual needs to meet all requirements called out to work Propriety Programs.
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience with Open Standards including but not limited to SOSA, CMOSS, OMS, and MORA.
- Systems engineering experience across multiple communication products, technologies, and form factors
- Demonstrated experience developing complex multi-function architectures and collaborating with industry
- Knowledge of communications engineering fundamentals including: radio transceiver architectures/designs, radio functional component blocks, performance specifications and test methodologies
- Demonstrated experience with system requirements capture, design, and decomposition
- Demonstrated program pursuit and capture ability (concept development, technical writing and work estimation)
- Understanding of system validation and verification processes for Software Defined Radios
- Demonstrated ability to effectively interact directly with engineering management and design teams as well as executive leadership
- Communicate effectively with Program Management, Business Development and Sales teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Serve as liaison between functional discipline groups and internal and external customers
- Ability to travel occasionally to domestic and international locations
- Familiarity with military concepts of operations
- Acquainted with radio performance standards (military, commercial, FAA)

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
