Turion Space is seeking a talented RL/ML intern (and space enthusiast!) to apply a blend of engineering, mathematics, and physics to find and implement solutions to interesting problems in the space domain. Under guidance of our engineers, interns will work as part of a small team to deeply explore, optimize, and deploy in-house machine learning applications. The intern will take ownership over the entire machine learning software development process: conducting literature review, problem formulation, solution proposition, implementation, and validation of solution. The intern will aid in developing the ML pipeline for deployment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct literature review of algorithms for challenging space-based applications
- Optimize the runtime performance of existing implementations via code optimization, Jax, PyTorch, Tensorflow, parallelization, etc.
- Develop automated data generation pipelines for continuous refinement of in-house ML models
- Collaborate with senior ML engineers to conduct data exploration, feature engineering, and validation of currently existing models
- Contribute to team discussions, providing insight and feedback to collectively drive innovation across several related projects
- Work well in a fast-paced collaborative team environment
- Write high-quality technical documentation
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Experience related to prototyping and maturing RL/ML models and the corresponding data generation pipelines
- Experience with one or more of the following: orbital mechanics, uncertainty quantification, numerical optimization methods, Kalman filters, HPC, and parallel computing
- Strong mathematical background in linear algebra, probability, numerical/statistical analysis, and/or robotics/control
- Ability to work autonomously and search for solutions with minimal direct supervision
