This role blends an understanding of key customer requirements, market trends, and technology innovations to analyze how different data management technologies attempt to address them.
You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining software that allows us to understand our strengths and weaknesses against competitors. This analysis is essential in helping MongoDB shape our product strategy and roadmap, inform product positioning, and relay appropriate messaging to customers.
You will be a core part of an energetic and globally distributed team that reports to the Director of Competitive Intelligence. As a member of the team, you will have opportunities to help develop thought leadership and competitive differentiation that broadens your understanding of application development and data management. This insight will build your experience in the fastest growing sector of the technology industry. You will work in partnership with the product, engineering and performance testing teams.
Responsibilities
- Identify and Design – Cultivate expertise in MongoDB and competitor products. Design tools and testing frameworks to identify each system's strengths and weaknesses.
- Develop - Write, run, and maintain test frameworks which validate the capabilities and performance of MongoDB and competitor products.
- Produce and analyze results – Generate data in a methodical, systematic, and actionable format. The output will be shared with content creation, product, and engineering teams throughout MongoDB.
Success Measures
- Development of tools for testing various database products across multiple use cases which identify MongoDB’s strengths and areas of improvement in a clear, fact-driven manner
- Become a technical expert in MongoDB and select competitor products
- Facilitate and evangelize company-wide adoption of the team’s tools and output
Requirements
- Minimum of 5+ years’ experience in software development, solutions consulting, technical product management, or a similar role - though other roles and relevant experience will be considered. Prior work or practical experience in the market and technology landscape in which MongoDB competes is expected.
- Strong knowledge of application development lifecycles, as well as foundational knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
- Ability to write clearly defined and documented code. Must enable easy adoption by peers across the company.
- Experience in using at least one major programming language/framework in a professional setting - e.g. Python, Java, Javascript, etc.
- A very low ego-to-talent ratio.
- BA/BS or an advanced degree in a relevant field preferred, but relevant experience will be equally considered.
- Preferred location Mexico City, Mexico.
