Under the guidance of China Search and Evaluation Lead and China SBD head, the China SEBD Director is a key role that encompasses 1) assess late-stage assets (e.g., Phase 3 through commercial) to grow Pfizer China business; and 2) screen opportunities (mainly early / mid-stage assets) of value in select TAs to Pfizer global pipeline as needed; and 3) execute transactions, including developing business case, financial analysis, negotiating with partners, developing legal contracts, request internal approvals and endorsements, to ensure proposed transactions create value for Pfizer through close collaboration with cross functional teams.
This is an individual contributor role in which the individual is expected to participate in assessments as well as co-lead a cross functional team of experts from the Biopharma Business in China and global team. This person will play an important role in enhancing Pfizer’s reputation as a preferred partner and will foster a broad network throughout the local Biotech/Pharmaceutical industry.
Key aspects of this role include ensuring proactive search activities are undertaken on mechanisms and indications of strategic interest to the local Biopharma business, opportunities are efficiently prioritized, and assessments are conducted to the highest standards. In addition, ensuring relationships are established and maintained with local Biotech/Pharma companies.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

- Accountable for covering the external landscape such that external opportunities are proactively sourced, thoroughly evaluated, prioritized and brought forward to governance for decision. This is accomplished through co-leadership of the China Biopharma Business Therapeutic Area Sourcing and Outreach Team (opportunity identification and screening) and Product Specific Licensing Team (in-depth evaluation, including scientific due diligence activities)
- Establishes relationships with Biotech, Pharma, VCs, and the scientific community in the region
- Serves as primary point of contact with the potential partner prior to submission of non-binding term sheet and thereafter partners in this role with Transactional lead from China BD team
- Acts as the Transaction Lead for selected BD project
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

- Works collaboratively with representatives from China Strategy / BD and business teams to ensure a coordinated approach to sourcing and evaluating new opportunities
- Works collaboratively with all Category S&E teams to ensure locally sourced opportunities are highlighted globally and to ensure the needs of the local China Biopharma business are communicated and understood by the Category S&E leads and that outreach efforts are well coordinated, and that Pfizer is well represented at local / regional partnering and scientific conferences

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Master degree in Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, or related disciplines; MD, PhD preferred.
- Established track record of completing successful business development transactions.
- 5+ years of research experience in biotech or pharmaceutical drug discovery / development or life science sector.
- Experienced in scientific exchange with scientists/physicians and executive level management of external biotech / biopharma companies.
- Excellent communication skills (written and oral in both Chinese and English) and ability to articulate scientific/clinical results are required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Familiarity with biomedical research communities in China and a track record in operating in the region independently and productively in opportunity scouting, and relationship management are preferred
- Significant prior experience in the US/EU Biopharma / life science sector is preferred
