The Data and Analytics Engineering organization is responsible for building the data ecosystem of Discover across all Lines of Business. This involves a range of applications that allow for data curation, ingestion, empower large scale ELT transactions and data egress.
On a day-to-day basis, you’ll be part of a small, close-knit team of engineers that are agile, driven and highly collaborative. You’ll help analyze application performance trends, propose ideas and solutions during sprint planning with your team, implement big ideas and then measure the results. Engineers on our team have moved on to bigger roles within Discover and are influencing decision making at various levels.
Our team is responsible for architecting and building the platform that empowers Data Engineering. The platform we build directly impacts the quality of data that is available to build models and campaigns. The team focuses on the automation of code generation and deployment across various platforms, trying to figure out the best way to interact with disparate systems and maintain optimum performance.
Responsibilities
- Analyze, design, program, test, and deploy new user stories and features with high quality (security, reliability, operations) to production. Understands the software development lifecycle and leverages critical thinking skills to properly evaluate features and functionality.
- Guides early-career engineers by providing learning tasks as well as work related tasks, directs the work of emerging talent, and helps them continue to grow in their technical skillset through mentorship.
- Has an oversight on application, system, and architecture design decisions and guides team to achieve key results for products assigned to them.
- Remediates issues using engineering principles and creates proactive design solutions for potential failures to ensure high reliability of technical solutions.
- Achieves team commitments (and influence others to do the same) by using informal leadership & highly developed communication skills
- Contributes to and leads technology communities of practice at Discover in areas of design-thinking, tools/technology, agile software development, security, architecture and/or data.
- Creates and enforces IT standards within the system/application infrastructure and compatibility with the architecture of the platform.
Minimum Qualifications
At a minimum, here’s what we need from you:
- Bachelors – Computer Science or related
- 3+ Years – Information Technology, (Software) Engineering, or related
- Internal applicants only: technical proficiency rating of competent on the Dreyfus engineering scale
Preferred Qualifications
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Hands on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, Step Functions, CloudTrail, CloudWatch, DynamoDB, EC2.
- Experience with microservices, containers, and Kubernetes.
- Snowflake MPP database experience a plus
- Hands-on experience integrating open-source components into data-analytic solutions.
- Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scalability) of new and current systems.
- Experience developing, deploying and maintaining large-scale Cloud-native solutions.
- Experience building data pipelines to ingest data into data lake.

Compensation:
The base pay for this position generally ranges between $86,500.00 to $146,100.00. Additional incentives may be provided as part of a market competitive total compensation package. Factors, such as but not limited to, geographical location, relevant experience, education, and skill level may impact the pay for this position.
