The Role
SPAN’s Hardware R&D team is looking for driven and multidisciplinary electrical engineering intern to participate in developing hardware and firmware used in SPAN products to sense, actuate, and respond to abnormal electrical conditions via it’s embedded system. In this role, you will be tasked with researching, designing, implementing, testing, and validating multiple hardware and digital signal processing systems.
You will work alongside outstanding embedded hardware & firmware engineers and our data science group to support the development of electrical hardware and high-level and embedded algorithms to detect and protect against abnormal electrical conditions with our panel.
You will collaborate with software, hardware, controls, and mechanical teams to implement technologies that electrify the home and delight our customers.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include two or more of the following:

Support evaluation, testing, and the design of embedded hardware.

Conduct testing in our lab and ensure the data taken is of high quality.

Build prototype or proof of concept projects to validate different design ideas based on system requirements.

Conduct circuit modeling and simulation.

Support Lab test Setups, data collection, and analysis.
-
Collaborate with internal and cross-functional teams.
About You
Required Qualifications
We are seeking an intern who meets the following criteria:
-
Passion for clean energy technology and decarbonization.
-
Pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer or data science, or equivalent fields.

Basic understanding of circuits, hardware and lab testing equipment.
-
Ability to analyze waveforms and troubleshoot test setups, test equipment assisting team members.
-
Excellent communication skills.
-
Experience in Lab Testing environments with actual hardware prototypes or components.
Bonus Qualifications
-
Experience with MATLAB / Simulink.
-
Experience using Python or C
-
Experience with digital signal processing methodologies and tools.
-
Experience creating schematics and layouts using Altium Designer.

Graduate Ph.D. students or Candidates.
The Internship position has a duration of 12 weeks and will start in May or June of 2024. Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college or university, and have not graduated prior to end of the Internship term.
The hourly rate for this role is $30/ hour for undergrad students, and $32/hr for Masters or PhD students.
