Job Description Qualifications:
The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Vehicle Management System (VMS) Software Engineering First Line Manager to join our Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T) Software Engineering Team.
This position will focus on VMS product development and support across multiple divisions within Boeing to include Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) and Boeing AvionX business organizations.
We are looking for a leader with a strong software background, interested in developing software for airborne systems, ground based tools and development environments.
The selected candidate will be responsible for leading VMS engineering teams, working with our software enterprise organization and functional engineering, to implement world-class VMS software across our wide variety of VMS portfolios. Our VMS software deploys to a variety of hardware on a range of platforms and technologies including X-66A, MQ-25 and T-7A.

Position Responsibilities:
- Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering
- Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
- Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
- Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes
- Manages, develops and motivates employees
- Must be comfortable with extensive cross program/cross functional collaboration and presenting to senior and executive leadership
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
- Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
- 3+ years of experience managing or leading a team in a technical discipline
- 2+ years of experience with software development projects, systems projects, and/or requirements analysis
- 2+ years of experience leading projects and/or individuals in software development lifecycle tasks
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Prior experience in VMS Software Development
- Experience in embedded/real-time operating systems
- Experience with Model Based Engineering (MBE)
- Experience in C/C++
- Experience with software certification (DAL/LOR)
- Experience with software requirement development
- Experience working with system/subsystem engineers
Typical Education/Experience:
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Travel
Occasional travel may be required- less than 10%.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.
Summary pay range for Berkeley, MO: $132,600 - $179.400
Summary pay range for Philadelphia, PA: $141,950 – $192,050
Summary pay range for Plano, TX: $141,950 – $192,050
Summary pay range for Mesa, AZ: $132,600 – $179,400
