Job Description
We are on the lookout for an exceptional Senior DevOps Engineer with a focus on firmware development to enhance our vibrant team. The perfect candidate will have a profound grasp of the DevOps ethos and practical, hands-on experience with automation specifically tailored to firmware engineering. You'll bring a depth of knowledge and a passion for streamlining development processes, driving efficiency, and improving reliability through a DevOps approach in the intricate realm of firmware development. Your expertise will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by integrating cutting-edge DevOps practices into our firmware engineering processes
- Engage with our firmware team to understand their workflow, infrastructure, and pain points to effectively integrate DevOps solutions.
- Utilize CI/CD tools to streamline development and deployment processes, ensuring faster and more reliable delivery.
- Champion the adoption of automation practices to enhance efficiency and reliability across all operations.
- Employ your expertise in software/firmware development and system operations to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical challenges.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that the DevOps culture is embedded within the fabric of the organization.
- Continuously assess and introduce new technologies and tools to keep the organization at the forefront of DevOps innovations.
Qualifications
Extensive CI/CD Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience with CI/CD tools like Git, BitBucket, Jenkins, and JIRA, coupled with a strong ability to configure and troubleshoot.
Networking Proficiency: Over 5 years of experience in networking, with a solid understanding of network protocols and configurations.
Scripting Expertise: Proficiency in creating and managing automated scripts with Bash or Python.
Programming Skills: Advanced skills in Bash and Python scripting to automate tasks and streamline processes.
Hardware and Systems Experience: Practical experience with local/onsite hardware or bare-metal setups. Strong hands-on experience with configuring Linux systems, including applying kernel patches and building custom debug kernels.
Embedded Systems Development: Proven track record in developing for embedded systems, understanding the intricacies and constraints associated with them.
Tools Proficiency: Experience with Artifactory for artifact management and Qemu/Docker for creating isolated environments.

- A thorough troubleshooter with the ability to solve complex problems under pressure and in constrained scenarios.
- A proactive problem solver who is not only technically proficient but also possesses the soft skills necessary to navigate complex team dynamics.
Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to conclude undertakings effectively and work collaboratively within a team.
Adaptability:
- Ability to adapt to new tools and technologies in the fast-evolving DevOps landscape.
- A continual learner who is always looking to improve and stay abreast of the latest industry trends and best practices in firmware and DevOps.

Compensation & Benefits Details
- An employee’s pay position within the salary range may be based on several factors including but not limited to (1) relevant education; qualifications; certifications; and experience; (2) skills, ability, knowledge of the job; (3) performance, contribution and results; (4) geographic location; (5) shift; (6) internal and external equity; and (7) business and organizational needs.
- The salary range is what we believe to be the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in California, Colorado, New York or remote jobs that can be performed in California, Colorado and New York. This range may be modified in the future.
- You will be eligible to participate in Western Digital’s Short-Term Incentive (STI) Plan, which provides incentive awards based on Company and individual performance. Depending on your role and your performance, you may be eligible to participate in our annual Long-Term Incentive (LTI) program, which consists of restricted stock units (RSUs) or cash equivalents, pursuant to the terms of the LTI plan. Please note that not all roles are eligible to participate in the LTI program, and not all roles are eligible for equity under the LTI plan. RSU awards are also available to eligible new hires, subject to Western Digital’s Standard Terms and Conditions for Restricted Stock Unit Awards.
