POSITION DESCRIPTIONJOB TITLE: MIECHV Home Visitor SALARY RANGE: 9REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: MIECHV Supervisor WORK STATION:SUPERVISES:GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Provides early childhood education and support services to families in a home based option.MIECHV Home Visitor Job DescriptionDuties and ResponsibilitiesConduct weekly 90 minute home visits to young children and their familiesCarry out curriculum for child development in the context of the home and during group socialization experiencesFacilitate group socialization experiences and other family group activitiesProvide education and support services to familiesConduct screening and ongoing assessment of young children's developmentCollaborate with families to establish family development goals, and document this collaborative process in family partnership agreementsPromote parental involvement in curriculum planning, program governance, and the overall MIECHV programMonitor and educate parents with respect to children's health status, including medical follow-up, physical health, dental health, mental health, and nutritional intakeProvide management, crisis intervention, and resource referral processAct as liaison and advocate between community resources and Head Start families.Transport families when appropriate to and from doctor/dental visits and socialization experiences.Complete documentation of home visits, socialization experiences, and other relevant activitiesMaintain confidentiality of family records and informationParticipate fully in supervision and training experiencesUnderstand responsibility of being a mandated reporter for Child Abuse and Neglect. Read and understand Child Abuse and Neglect Policy. Failure to follow reporting procedures, including incidents involving other staff members, may result in termination.Perform other duties as assignedQualificationsMinimum of an Associate's degree preferably in child development, education, social sciences or related fieldAt least one year of experience working with children and families in a human service settingObtain Family Development Credential within one year of employment Attend training as available and pertains to positionProvide background screen, immunizations, and health examination as required by state licensing, Head Start Performance Standards and ACA MIECHV grantCapacity to problem solve, handle crises, and work with families and children of various cultures from low-income backgroundsApproach to working with families that is empathic, nonjudgmental, respectful, and professionalWillingness to work primarily in the homes of families residing in high-risk communitiesFlexibility with respect to time and days able to work as well as to work tasksActive chauffeur's licenseAdditional requirements: Possess personal qualifications: emotional maturity, willingness to cooperate with the standards of the program, respect for children and adults, flexibility, patience, good personal hygiene, and physical and mental health which does not interfere with responsibilities. Must have good verbal communication skills and visual ability to observe children. Ability to fulfill responsibilities under pressure, including during emergencies. Working Conditions:Risk of exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues. Risk involved with travel on main highways, side streets and rural roads during the transportation of children. Risk of exposure to communicable diseases. Must be able to lift 55 pounds, many times a day, climb into the school bus, bend, kneel and squat frequently.
