Business Development Manager position. This position is open in our Austin, Chattanooga, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Jefferson City, Kansas City, Madison, Milwaukee, Minneapolis, Omaha, Phoenix, Springfield, and St. Louis offices.
The Business Development Manager (BDM) is responsible for optimizing the Husch Blackwell client journey by driving revenue growth through key client relationships and leading a positive client experience to ensure continued growth and retention. This role partners closely with the Legal Ops team and select CRMs and coordinates directly with legal and administrative team leads on a wide range of shared services.
The BDM also serves as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert with strong industry and firm knowledge to ensure client development and retention. The BDM will also be responsible for managing and developing assigned Strategist/Specialist to ensure consistency in work product and provide guidance, feedback, and opportunities under the supervision of the Director of Business Development. Essential functions include:
- Actively engage with your CRMs and client service teams by leading them through the disciplined Core 4+ methodology
- Define and oversee lifecycle processes/touchpoints along the client journey and clarify ownership for each part of the journey
- Increase client lifetime through engagement, demonstrating a deep understanding of firm and client alignment to ensure their success
- Develop trust and credibility with your CRMs and client service teams by providing valuable strategic and operational support that builds client loyalty, generates revenue, and leads to profitable work
- Work with Client Relationship Managers (CRM) to establish clear growth goals and priorities for assigned client teams
- Take ownership of Business Development issues and/or problems that may arise for CRMs and/or clients, and resolve them to completion, minimizing the efforts of the CRM and client.
- Assist in firmwide training efforts including co-conducting workshops such as the Leveling Up Curriculum, PSC presentations, SBU presentations and client team presentations
- Coach attorneys to Identify growth opportunities by arming the CRMs with knowledge of the firm's value proposition
- Conduct periodic client health checks to improve efficiency and maintain client balance and improve client satisfaction
- Collaborate across client teams and strategize with stakeholders to synchronize engagement throughout every milestone of the client journey
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Legal Ops, HR, Recruiting and other relevant areas to facilitate problem solving
- Special projects as assigned
- In coordination and collaboration with other firm resources, and in alignment with the firm's strategic plan, this role will serve to:
- Enhance the process of managing client accounts
- Collaborate with Legal Ops on client management, reporting and improving processes (i.e., budgeting, project managing, billing, reporting)
- Consistently gather client feedback and respond with actions to improve the client experience via various platforms
POSITION REQUIREMENTS- 4-year degree with major coursework in marketing, communications, or related field; or combination of education and commensurate work experience required.
- 7+ years of solid marketing and business development experience at progressing levels throughout career. Experience in a professional services firm or related organization preferred.
- 5 years' management experience in related field preferred.
- Strong business development abilities required, including setting priorities, planning, organization, follow-through, delegation and negotiation skills; and ability to build, manage and track budgets and analyze ROI.
- Ability to motivate attorneys to engage in business development and to work with them to develop and implement business development plans.
- Experience providing a high level of client service to individuals at all levels of an organization.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to write and produce compelling proposals, collateral, research reports and client-facing presentation materials.
- Must be forward-thinking with proven ability to deliver solutions to complex challenges.
- High level of maturity and confidence necessary to interact with sophisticated internal and external clients.
- Excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office products, Adobe Creative Suite and Internet research tools required; knowledge of InterAction CRM software preferred.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSEmployees are entitled to compensation commensurate with skill and experience. The exact compensation will vary based on skills, experience, location, and other factors permitted by law. The expected compensation ranges for this position in various states and jurisdictions are as follows:
- State of Colorado: $102,000 - $182,000
The above salaries do not include a discretionary bonus, however bonus opportunities are non-guaranteed, and are dependent upon individual and firm performance.
