This full-time hybrid role reports to the Director of Business Intelligence (BI) within the Information Technology Services unit. Only two required days per week at Excelsior's home office: 7 Columbia Circle Albany, NY. The remaining days can be worked from home. The BI Developer is a member of the BI team participating in building, extending, and maintaining data architecture that supports the analytical needs of the University. Collaborating with analysts, end users, and other technology staff is expected. Gathering and understanding business requirements is essential. Developing an in-depth understanding of data maintained in various application systems, and how it is best organized or integrated is mandatory. Designing, building, and maintaining reports and dashboards is necessary.
- Work in collaboration with business users to analyze, estimate, and fulfill requests for information and reports from transactional systems.
- Understand business workflow, processes, and events. Relate your understanding to how these are captured in transactional systems.
- Design and develop dashboards using QlikView, Qlik Sense, Power BI, and other BI tools.
- Assist in BI systems, performance, and usability testing.
- Deploy, configure, monitor, and maintain BI systems.
- Develop, test, and maintain PLSQL or TSQL queries to meet customer requirements.
- Assist in executing, monitoring, and administering extract/transform/load (ETL) processes within the data warehouse environment.
- Prepare accurate time estimates for projects and manages tasks to meet timelines.
- Write technical documentation and term definitions in Data Cookbook.
- Enhance professional skills by attending conferences and advanced training in required areas of expertise.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, systems engineering, database management or related field
- Understanding of Higher Education business concepts, procedures, and practices is preferred.
- At least five years' experience writing and troubleshooting complex SQL queries (PL/SQL and TSQL).
- Proficiency with normalization techniques (5NF) and designing star schemas.
- Experience with reporting tools like Power BI, QlikView, Qlik Sense is preferred.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills with attention to detail.
- Experience in creating requirements analysis documentation accurately defining expectations of multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational skills including managing multiple priorities, adhering to timelines, and providing high quality services.
- Ability to learn and adapt new technologies
The hiring salary range for this position is $85,000.00 - $95,000.00. The hiring salary range above represents the University's good faith estimate at the time of posting.
