The Enterprise Data Governance (EDG) team is part of the American Express Data Office, our global data center of excellence responsible for realizing the potential of our data. We are looking for a strategic, experienced individual for the role of Data Architect to design a metadata architecture, develop and maintain models, taxonomies, ontologies, and an Enterprise business glossary. This role will also support Data Discovery and Sensitive Data Element identification and tagging, and work to identify and leverage opportunities for data governance system integrations that support broader metadata/data management.
The Senior Data Architect will be responsible for:
- Designing innovative Metadata & Data Governance strategies that enables consistent and trusted data across the enterprise.
- Leading the development and maintenance of taxonomies and metamodels, including those that capture the Data Governance & Data Management policies.
- Curation of Business Terms in an Enterprise Business Glossary.
- Collaborating with the Data Activation (Bringing Data Under Governance) and System Certification teams to support the federated data office teams for data management and data governance across the enterprise.
- Collaborating with Enterprise Data Governance Policy and Standards team to develop and promote metadata standards that will foster consistency and interoperability of data across the enterprise.
- Understanding and Developing Entity-Relationship, Dimensional, Canonical, and other Data Models.
- Designing the metadata architecture for relationships and linkages among enterprise Data Governance-related tools.
- Collaborating with the Data Governance product owners, Information Security and Data Privacy teams to build automation capability for discovering and tagging Sensitive Data Elements/SDE change management.
- Creating an ontology and collaborating with our technology partners to develop a Knowledge Graph that serves as a semantic layer that supports a variety of business use cases and enables us to leverage decision science methods that solve data management challenges.
- Maintaining the Enterprise Conceptual Data Model and working with Data Architects and Engineering teams to ensure the consistency of design among conceptual, logical, and physical layers.
Qualifications & Experience
A successful candidate will have:
- 7+ years of experience in data architecture, metadata architecture, metamodels and major data governance initiatives focusing on advancing curated, high quality enterprise data sets.
- 4+ years of experience in data modeling and building conceptual, logical & physical models, and related tools such as ER/Studio, Erwin, Hackolade, etc.
- Experience with relational, NoSQL, and Big Data storage solutions and requirements.
- Preferred Experience with ontologies, RDF/OWL, SHACL, Knowledge Graphs, and related tools.
- Deep understanding of and experience with Data Governance tools such as Collibra, Alation, Manta.
- Preferred Experience with identifying and tagging sensitive data through automated solutions.
- Experience working in financial services is a plus.
- Solid understanding of Data Management and Data Governance concepts with the ability to be an advocate for architecture that supports Amex’s governance/management of data.
- Excellent communication skills with a demonstrated ability to engage, influence, and encourage partners and stakeholders to drive collaboration and alignment.
- High degree of organization, individual initiative and personal accountability and resiliency.
Salary Range: $103,000.00 to $170,000.00 annually + bonus + benefits
