The Boeing Company is seeking an experienced, highly skill professional to become a member of the AvionX Engineering team serving as an Electrical Microelectronics Firmware Design Engineer in Huntsville, Alabama.
We are seeking a Lead or Subject Matter Expert Engineer who will work with a multi-skilled, multi-disciplined team of engineers in the execution of complex technical hardware and firmware development of avionics products in accordance with both commercial and defense customer requirements, business objectives, and Boeing processes. The role will provide detailed technical design execution to ensure program technical, schedule and cost constraints are met.
The Huntsville AvionX Power and Embedded Controls Team develop Electronic Designs, build, test and deliver Electronic/Electrical products and provide Engineering solutions for a variety of the company's government and commercial programs across the world, including commercial and government avionics, space exploration, and multiple military programs. The team is responsible for Electrical / Electronic Hardware, Test Equipment, Avionics, Smart Battery System and Wire Harness Design.

Position Responsibilities:
- Provides technical depth and ensure common practices are in place across programs and product lines within AvionX
- Develops Software and Firmware C Programs
- Develops software/firmware using Visual Studio C/C++
- Develops Micro-controller code
- Interfaces with other AvionX engineers, project engineers, project leads and program management to execute program goals, objectives, projects and initiatives
- Provides cross-functional technical execution, communication, process adherence, and process improvements
- Provides LabView, Matlab, and Test Set Executive Software and Scripting
- Manages automation test software development
- Chairs and/or participates in AvionX Change Control Boards (CCB), Readiness Reviews, Design reviews etc.
- Executes engineering tasks, projects, special assignments, and other activities required to support program engineering leadership and/or customer(s)
- Provides direct/indirect support to all AvionX stakeholders and customers
- Provides mentoring and coaching to all project leads and employees
This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.
This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry
- 14+ years of experience with the design and technical development of hardware, firmware or software for Military, Space, or Commercial airplane systems
- 14+ years’ experience with software or hardware engineering, requirements, design, development, test, and working with software and hardware
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- 20+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Bachelors, Master's, or Doctorate degree in an engineering field (Systems, Electrical, Mechanical, Software)
- Active US Security Clearance
- Experience with engineering processes and tools required to complete requirements development, hardware integration, verification, certification, leading into production and support services
- Experience in new technology or product/capability development
- Experience leading through influencing and partnering with cross-functional teams on project and initiatives
- Experience communicating with senior managers and executives, customers (internal and external), business partners / suppliers / subcontractors, and government representatives
- Experience providing directly and/or obtaining subject matter experts for firmware engineering technical oversight of multiple concurrently executing development programs from feature identification through entry into service and product support
- Experience engaging collaboratively with management, technical fellows, teammates, suppliers, and customers while upholding high quality and safety standards
- Experience with DO-178C, DO-254, DO-160, and ARP-4754 hardware and software development tools, processes and standards
- Experience with both Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies
- Experience with Earned Value Management (EVM), including developing Quantifiable Backup Data (QBD) and Control Account Management (CAM)
- Experience with developing proposals, including developing budgets and a resource loaded schedule
Typical Education/Experience:
Lead (Level 5):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
Subject Matter Expert (Level 6):
Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 20 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+15 years' related work experience, Master+18 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Summary pay range for Lead level: $145,350 – $196,650
Summary pay range for Subject Matter Expert: $177,650 - $240,350
