Job Description
Global Data Solutions Team
To ensure that Visa’s payment technology is truly available to everyone, everywhere requires the success of our key bank or merchant partners and internal business units. The Global Data Solutions (GDS) team comprises of data practitioners with diverse data skillsets ranging from data science, data engineering, data visualization and data acquisition. The Global Data Visualization is a new team within the Global Data Solutions team that will utilize advanced BI and visualization skills to drive delivery of projects for Visa’s internal and external clients.
Our focus lies on building creative solutions that have an immediate impact on the business of our highly analytical partners. The team will work in complementary teams comprising members from Consulting, Data Science, Technology, Marketing, Legal and many other groups at Visa. To support our rapidly growing group we are looking to fill leadership roles in our for our Data Visualization group with candidates who equally passionate about the opportunity to use Visa’s rich data to tackle meaningful business problems.
We are looking for an exceptional technical individual contributor to provide leadership in the data visualization and BI space. This position will be part of Global Data Solutions and will report into the Head of Insights Studio to lead development of BI and data visualization in a shared services context. In this role, you will be responsible to help develop GDS Insights Studio as a global BI and data visualization solutions team who can partner with regional and global teams in Visa to drive Visa and client outcomes in terms of decision making with data. Initially, a large part of this team will support out Visa Consulting & Analytics (VCA) business. This business is responsible for supporting Visa’s clients with data and insights- and data visualization is a core part of projects.
You will partner closely with Global stakeholders across consulting, data science, technology, and other teams. You will get chance to leverage your strategic planning, business analysis and technical knowledge of data engineering, tools and data architecture solutions. Since this is a new team, the candidate will have a significant contribution in laying out the foundation of shared services based central team and building foundational capabilities (like micro frontends or data processes.) You will also be a hands-on expert who can effectively partner with cross-functional teams to build effective solutions.
Primary responsibilities
- Define, architect, and execute global BI/Data Visualization team. Build the structure, assets, design systems and tooling needed for IS.
- Define the vision and execution paths for foundational initiatives that need to be undertaken to support a team of this scale. For instance, this team will work with Global Design on necessary tooling and infra to support their delivery.
- Collaborate and influence senior leadership so that you work directly impacts company strategy and direction. Liaise with various stakeholders including Technology, Data Science leads, VCA Strategy and Operations and DE global delivery teams to develop and execute a roadmap of projects and teams.
- Communicate effectively to inform and influence executive audiences, including executive level internal and external partners.
- Evangelize technical approaches in data visualization and act as a subject matter expert in guiding strategy as it relates to tooling an execution practices.
- Provide technical guidance on managing and improving technical infrastructure including, for example, a strategy to utilize new visualization development processes.
- Exposure to Financial Services/ Payments data analytics and BI development. Desirable exposure to Marketing, Authorization, Fraud & Chargeback Analytics.
- Build and manage a team of talented data visualization specialists with the ability to not only keep up with, but also pioneer, in this space.
- Experience in managing global shared teams with cross-functional executive stakeholders in an agile manner.
- Experience working with technology and business teams on Data Governance, Data Quality and Data Architecture initiatives.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills needed to effectively communicate technical insights and recommendations with business customers and leadership team.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
9+ yrs. work experience with a Master’s or a PHD in an analytical field such as computer science, statistics, finance, economics or adjacent areas.
5+ years of experience managing technical architecture, tooling and design systems for BI development preferably in a financial services or consulting setting
5+ years of experience leading BI/ data visualization projects and related skills
Familiarity with shared services, consulting, financial services is a strong plus
Fundamental and broad knowledge of common data tools and methodologies
Expert knowledge of data visualization tool ecosystem and common open source technologies, (For e.g. PowerBI, Tableau, Microstrategy, web frameworks like React, associated data engineering principles and practices)
Strategic and Functional Excellence
Good business acumen to orient data analysis to business needs of clients, including experience in the payments space.
Ability to translate data and technical concepts into requirements documents, business cases and user stories.
Good understanding of agile working practices and related program management skills.
Good communication and presentation skills with ability to interact with different cross-functional team members at varying levels
Ability to learn new tools and paradigms as data science continues to evolve at Visa and elsewhere.

Technical skills:
Expertise with Visualization Tools like Tableau, Power BI, D3 and exposure to code version control systems (git).
Expertise in the workflows of visual design from identifying business goals to delivering impactful visualization and the processes in-between that make it happen.
Experience in creating large scale data engineering pipelines, data-based decision-making and quantitative analysis.
Experience – CICD/ Data Architectures/ Pipelines/ Quality /Code Management.
Exposure to large scale project delivery, organization design and structure for shared services teams including intake, prioritization and associated tracking/reporting.
Advanced experience in clarifying goals for BI/Visualization projects in ways that optimizes outcomes. Responsiveness to clients business goals and ability to translate into compelling reports and insights.
Experience with SQL for extracting, aggregating and processing big data Pipelines using Hadoop, EMR & NoSQL Databases.
Experience creating/supporting production software/systems and a proven track record of identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks for production systems.
