Job Description
Lead System data architect will be part of Visa Payment Platform architecture team and will be reporting to Sr. Director of Data Architecture.
As a system data architect, you will help develop and enhance data strategy, data governance guideline and best practice across the organization. You will work with various payment product engineering teams, application architects, product teams to build and enhance long lasting, maintainable, end to end data ecosystems with consistency, availability, and scalability.
Essential Functions:
Lead logical and physical data model design for RDBMS databases in a distributed and active-active environment.
Partner with application architects and product teams to translate requirements to data needs with security, regulation compliance and audit in mind.
Enhance and promote data architecture standards, best practices and data patterns to benefit long term maintainability, performance, reliability, and scalability.
Drive continuous data technology transformation to minimize technical debt.
Work with product teams and engineering teams to design end to end data flow using various ETL tools available to Hadoop.
Serve as a subject matter expert resource to engineering and devOps teams to help with solutions to complex issues and be able to articulate the benefits and compromises of different approaches.
Research and POC new data technology.
Explore new AI tools to improve productivity.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working as Database Architect or Data Architect
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or other technology field. Typically requires 10+ years of experience in delivering enterprise-class, mission-critical, commercial, and scalable products, at least 3 of which were in the role of an architect or a lead developer
- Understand scalability challenges and capable of designing and developing horizontally scalable, resilient, and performing-under-load systems.
- Understand the data challenges of a real time, large volume distributed system.
- Experienced with at least one of the RDBMS: PostgreSQL or MySQL or Oracle and savvy with database partitioning and performance tuning.
- Strong interpersonal, facilitation along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear, concise way. Strong ability to influence and develop relationships with key partners.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 163,800.00 to 213,000.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
