Job Description
The Database Engineer, Sr. Consultant – Cloud Platform Architecture is responsible for providing architecture guidance and technical expertise for the various platform components like database and middleware products in public cloud environments. This role requires experience with cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Azure, and AWS, with specific focus on GCP. They will be responsible for developing and maintaining cloud architecture frameworks, including cloud-native solutions that leverage the latest cloud technologies and best practices. This role will also require prototyping solutions and converting proofs-of-concept for production deployments.
The selected candidate will collaborate with diverse teams such as Infrastructure, Platform, Cyber Security, and Product Development, among others, to establish public and hybrid cloud solutions. These solutions will leverage cloud infrastructure to address technology, regulatory, security, and competitive challenges. The Cloud Platform Architect is a senior technologist with demonstrated experience and interest in the public cloud, hybrid cloud, and application transformation, and has experience in workload migration from the private to the public cloud. The candidate should have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. This position reports to the Sr. Director – Platform.
Responsibilities:
• Develop and maintain cloud architecture frameworks, including cloud-native solutions for the organization
• Design and implement cloud-based infrastructure solutions and platform components using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Design and provide guidance on database and middleware solutions, including selecting appropriate database and middleware technologies,
• Evaluate and recommend whether to use managed services or build your own, taking into account factors such as cost, availability, scalability, and security.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, develop and implement cloud-based solutions to meet the organization’s business requirements
• Use cloud-native mindset to create greenfield solutions based on business goals, objectives, and requirements, while understanding integration with legacy solutions
• Define and document standard designs and processes and maintain documentation across all updates or changes
• Stay up to date with latest cloud technologies and best practices and suggest improvements to organization’s cloud deployment
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Extensive experience with cloud platforms, with a preference for GCP, but also including AWS and Azure.
• Demonstrated proficiency in designing and deploying cloud-based solutions for database and middleware products using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Comprehensive knowledge of diverse database technologies, including traditional RDBMS and distributed databases.
• Proficient in implementing continuous availability architecture, ensuring that systems are designed to provide uninterrupted service, even in the event of failures or maintenance activities.
• Experience with database technologies in a containerized environment, utilizing container orchestration tools such as Kubernetes or similar platforms.
• Familiarity with methodologies and techniques for infrastructure migration, including large-scale application transitions to the cloud.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 132,900.00 to 172,800.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
