The technical leader will be responsible for:
Job Scope
- As a Director (People Manager) in Data Platform, you will manage the Data-as-a-Service development team based in Bangalore, India where you will be responsible and accountable for end-to-end development and production support for Visa Account Updater (VAU). VAU is a key revenue generation value-added service, which solves outdated credentials problem for Cardholder, Issuer, Acquirer and Merchants, to support recurring and subscription-based payments. This position will be responsible for day-to-day management of a team of up to 12 data engineers and will also contribute to the development process.
Essential Functions
- Responsible for end-to-end software engineering aspects of design, development, testing and deployment for VAU product and platform capabilities to support global customer needs, product innovations and technical initiatives.
- Responsible for technical capabilities of the product and the platform in terms of data design/architecture, UI/UX design/architecture, and API based backend systems.
- Create and promote an agile development culture in his or her team focused on Engineering Excellence with high quality code development and deployment to production.
- Facilitate knowledge transfer to the Engineering and Operations team during and after deployment.
- Work with geographically distributed teams on technical challenges and process improvements.
- Drive the strong automate everything culture with proven and open source-based technologies, frameworks, and best practices to reduce complexity and encourage operational excellence to the team.
- Engage and communicate with stakeholders of business, product, technology, operations, and customer success teams.
People Management:
- Build and maintain a high performing team, hire and retain the right talent in the right role.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and mentoring.
- Develop and empower direct reports to make appropriate technical decisions.
- Ensure resource availability to support deployment activities in various environments
- Manage resources in alignment with forecast models.
- Set resource goals and delegate project work.
- Manage development of resources by setting and aligning business and technical expectations.
- Identify process improvements and/or ineffective use of project hours and resources.
- Drive consistency in artifacts and deliverables, budgets, and resource planning.
- Manage development resources across multiple technologies including Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase, MySQL, Java/Spring Boot/API backend, Python, HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Angular and other Open-Source technologies.
- Design and develop highly scalable and fault-tolerant systems using multiple technologies.
- Work collaboratively with senior management, architecture, and senior development staff to develop broadly acceptable solutions.
- Take complete responsibility of the full life cycle of projects and oversee software release implementations when required.
- Partner with Technical Product Management to identify clear business requirements

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
10+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 7 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 4 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 13+ years of relevant work experience.
Preferred Qualifications
15+ years of work experience including 5+ years of management and 5+ years of big data technologies or data product, platform and architecture experience with deep technology expertise in the following:
Strong leadership and team player, including mentoring/growing junior people
Strong at technical goal setting for a project with actionable success metrics. Good knowledge and experience on measuring a service from user experience angle.
Strong on driving for results and self-motivated, strong learning mindset, with good understanding of related advanced/new technology. Keep up with the technology development in the related areas in the industry, which could be leveraged to enhance current architectures and build durable new ones.
Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, including ability to effectively communicate architectural issues and concepts to multiple organization levels and executive management.
Strong problem solving skills to deep dive, brainstorm, and choose best solution approach.
Have prior hands-on experience using languages such as Java, Python or Golang. Strong on elegant and quality coding, can write very solid prototypes or core components quickly.
Experience in leading teams that have built full stack applications from the ground-up using modern micro-service technologies like Java Spring Boot, REST API Gateway, front-end technologies such as Angular, ReactJS, data storage technologies such as RDBMS - MySQL, NoSQL - HBase/MongoDB/Cassandra etc.
Experience in leading teams that have built data engineering applications using Big Data Platforms such as Hadoop/HDFS, Hive/HBase, Sqoop/NiFi, Spark, Kafka, Apache AirFlow/DSeries etc.
Experience in DevSecOps world - Github/Git, CI/CD Pipelines, Jenkins, Security Tools, Kubernetes/VMs/Linux, Monitoring, Alerting, etc.
Strong proponent of Innovation and open-source contributions.
Payment industry experience (preferred)
