Your Role and your Team:
The integrated design of the Lilium Jet brings up unique challenges for our Aircraft Performance Team. We need our Performance Engineers to appreciate the underlying physics to predict performance with sufficient accuracy, and simultaneously help to develop the appropriate methods to certify this aircraft under SC-VTOL.
We are looking for an exceptional Aircraft Performance Lead, with proven experience in Performance certification, to help us shape the future of urban e-mobility.
In this position, you will be responsible for developing the technical strategy for Performance, considering the needs of both Engineering and Commercial. You will lead and develop our team of Performance engineers to execute this strategy on the road to certification. As part of this, it will be necessary for you to define processes and tools to make this a reality.
The function of Performance sits within the Flight & Applied Sciences group; for the Lilium Jet program you will report to the Chief Engineer. Part of your role will be to work with other groups across Chief Engineering, Propulsion, Energy, Commercial, and Flight-Testing departments.
The Flight and Applied Science team uses a mixture of low and high-fidelity calculation, together with optimization methods and physical testing to ensure our aircraft and systems achieve our performance targets. We use state-of-the-art systems to deliver rapid results and encourage innovative thinking to achieve the best solutions, on-time.
Your Day to Day:
- Leading the Aircraft Performance team, providing strategic vision, technical oversight and developing the team.
- Taking a hands on role to plan, execute and review all aspects of aircraft performance, including:
- Aircraft Performance modelling
- Aircraft Performance Flight Test Planning & Evaluation
- Generation of Performance data to support the design of the Aircraft and its Systems
- Generation of Performance data for Flight Manuals
- Certification of Aircraft Performance
- Support for Market and Sales activities
- Developing team processes, methods and tools, in alignment with the Flight Sciences framework.
- Developing plans, schedules and budgets in accordance with the needs of the program.
- Managing the execution of all deliverables on time, at cost and to quality standards.
- Participating directly in the development of deliverables and work products as appropriate.
- Establish cross-functional partnerships, collaborations and supplier relationships where required.
Your Profile:
- Masters’ Degree or PhD in Aeronautics, Physics, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 10+ years of experience in Aircraft Performance.
- Extensive experience with Subpart B certification under EASA and FAA standards.
- Solid understanding of Flight Physics and the interdependencies to Aircraft Performance.
- Excellent knowledge of Performance modelling methods and tools.
- Well versed in requirements life cycle, from capturing to verification.
- A true desire to lead and develop junior staff members.
- Target-oriented, driven workstyle with analytic problem-solving skills.
- Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment.
- Fluent English language skills are essential, fluent German or any other language is beneficial.
