We are currently seeking a Battery Cell Metrology Engineer. Our ideal candidate exhibits a can-do attitude and approaches their work with vigor and determination. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate excellence in their respective fields, to possess the ability to learn quickly and to strive for perfection within a fast-paced environment.
Role:
- Key user of the cell team’s various teardown and metrology equipment, including gloveboxes, microscopes, CT scanner, sectioning tools, and other analytical techniques.
- Own the definition, creation, and upkeep of standardized reporting and documentation methods.
- Lead cell tear down engineer responsible for studies of lithium plating and other post mortem feature identification
- Develop, build, and utilize coin half, full and 3-electrode cells in order to extract key electrode-level electrochemical curves.
- Support time sensitive root cause analyses of developmental and mass production battery cells.
- Maintain and resolve issues with equipment and lab facility
- Champion EH&S related tasks and coordinate safe and timely waste removal.
- Support the identification, research, and development of business cases for future metrology equipment acquisition within the cell team, as well as utilizing academic institutional facilities.
Qualifications:
- 5 + years of related work experience
- Experience with glovebox operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Experience working in laboratory settings and requisite EH&S practices
- Experience developing robust analytical methods and assessing robustness via Gage R&R type assessments
- Experience with optical and electron microscopy, CT scanning, and profilometry.
- Experience with battery material/electrode characteristics, such as PSD, BET, Porosimetry
- Experience in thermal property measurement, including ARC and thermal conductivity testing
- Experience with next generation battery formats and chemistries (e.g. 46XX, SSB, etc)
- Experience in handling and characterizing air sensitive samples
- Experience with JMP, MATLAB, or Python
Advantageous:
- Use battery cell cyclers and coin cell experiments to characterize cell performance and support algorithm development
- Basic understanding of lithium-ion battery design, components, and safety
- Proven track record of generating easy-to-follow written and oral reports
- Detail-oriented with a strong bias towards documentation.
Education:
- BSEE or similar. MSEE preferred
Salary Range: The compensation range for this position is specific to the locations listed below and is the range Lucid reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for the position taking into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including job-related knowledge; skillset; experience, education and training; certifications; and other relevant business and organizational factors.
·California (Bay Area) - $115,000-$165,000
Additional Compensation and Benefits: Lucid offers a wide range of competitive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, vacation, and 401k. The successful candidate may also be eligible to participate in Lucid’s equity program and/or a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing such programs.
