Our expertise in modifying materials at the atomic level and on an industrial scale helps our customers, who make smartphones, supercomputers, virtual reality headsets, autonomous vehicles, and more, transform their ideas and designs into reality. Our innovations Make Possible® a Better Future for all of humanity.
Inside our company, we apply the idea of make possible as we work together. We value our people and teams who turn possibilities into reality by advancing our strategy, accomplishing great things, and empowering others. We are deeply committed to fostering a Culture of Inclusion where every person knows they belong, feels empowered to bring their whole self to work, and is inspired to grow.
We are currently looking for a new or recent college graduate to join us as an applications engineer in low temperature technological plasmas. The candidate will be a member of the Computational Products and Solutions group and will play a vital role in the development, extension, maintenance, support, and use of the plasma physics module in our flagship multi-physics modeling software, the ACE+ Solver. The plasma physics module is continuously being extended and improved for modeling of non-equilibrium low temperature plasmas, especially for virtual reactor simulations and process design. The position offers a great opportunity to become a world-class expert in the field and to work with highly talented and capable peers in an energizing and rewarding environment. You will not only have the satisfaction of solving difficult problems, but you will also see the impact of your solutions and work on internal and external users of the plasma module.
Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with experienced computational physics research and development engineers to advance the state-of-the-art in plasma modeling to make an impact on the technology and on the value to the users of the module.
Devise, develop, and maintain code verification and QA/QC test cases to ensure the correctness and accuracy of existing and new features in plasma physics module and to guide the research and development staff towards needed improvements.
Carry out model validation to determine the ranges of applicability of the plasma models and sub models in the plasma module and to guide extensions and improvements to existing models and solution algorithms.
Develop an extensive understanding of the needs, use cases, and applications of the internal and external users of the plasma module, and provide expert guidance and support to these users to enable them to fully utilize of the available features in their designs and analyses.
Propose, define, and contribute to the development roadmap of the plasma module based on an understanding of the technological landscape of the field and the anticipated future technologies and market trends.
Prototype, implement, and test new features and modeling capabilities in the solver, and work with developers of the plasma module to evolve these prototypes into complete features that can be used by internal and external customers.
Requirements
A PhD in plasma physics or engineering or a related field with directly relevant experience.
Deep expertise in the physics of low-temperature plasmas.
Extensive understanding of the use of low-temperature plasmas in material processing applications, especially for semiconductor manufacturing.
Good understanding of computational modeling techniques for low-temperature plasma physics, good understanding of electromagnetics, and good understanding of the complete CAE workflow for computational simulations in general.
Hands-on experience with using academic, research, or commercial codes for modeling low-temperature plasmas with different chemistries (including volumetric and surface reactions involving ions and electrons) and different process conditions, using fluid, particle, or hybrid approaches.
Basic fluency with programming in Python, C, and Fortran.
Originality and creativity in thinking and problem solving.
