The Application Engineer will interface directly with our customers. The role works as part of a team of other Applications Engineers and Account Managers who work closely with Sensata’s global engineering, sales, and other cross-functional disciplines. Has technical expertise on the specific application as relevant per customer.
Primarily New Business Objective (NBO) focus; high technical aptitude and able to challenge and influence the customer on technical decisions, conveying Sensata's Product Value Proposition and Voice of the Customer and has a strong sales mindset as well.
Location- Region South Germany
General Responsibilities
•Utilizes Sensata product knowledge and application understanding to support new business opportunities and ensure best product offering. strong knowledge of key applications in growth segments at customers.
• Presents in regular meetings with customers to provide an emphasis on spec alignment and technical problem solving. Supports existing customers on new product development projects under development.
• Communicate business and technical information between the key individuals at the customer and Sensata.
• Provide strategic technical assessment of new business opportunities in cooperation with product teams. Evaluate opportunities based on the entire value chain, considering several criteria, such as technological differentiators, strategic fit, profitability, and timing.
• Participate in design review sessions, both customer and internal, as required. Conduct drawing and specification reviews with customers.
• Ensure projects meet customer requirements and quality standards.
• Help develop and refine product configurations to meet application needs that capitalize on the company's strengths and products. Provide onsite technical assistance to the sales team at industry trade shows and customer demonstrations and tech days.
• Negotiate technical specifications and compliance considering Sensata product offering and the application needs.
• Establish and maintain customer engineering relations, focusing on key subject matter experts and technical decision makers at customers.
• Physically present at the customer on a regular basis, to build relationship and for key decision moments during a project.
Experience / Qualifications
• A technical university degree required (i.e. Bachelors degree) or equivalent relevant work experience.
•Strong technical skills, ideally in automotive or industry related to high voltage components (such as contactors, fuses, battery distribution units) or sensing solutions, e.g. Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems.
•Communication and Influence Skills: Actively listens beyond product needs. Understands and influences customer hardware architecture to position Sensata’s solutions across multiple technologies.
• Customer Knowledge: Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the customer -- businesses, organizational structure, value drivers, products and services, and competitive market positions.
• Must be a team player able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
• Strong personal and professional ethical values and integrity
• Holds self-accountable to achieving goals and standards
• Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
You will be part of the European Auto Sales team and report to the Supervisor Application Engineer. Experience within the Automotive sector is required.
You will be working from a home office in Germany and closely working together with our European Business Center in Hengelo, The Netherlands.
