In this role, you will be working with both our robot software engineering and R&D teams on the software stack that drives the autonomy of our Tally(TM) robots. In this exciting role, you will be working on the cutting edge to improve and expand the capabilities of our robot fleet. You will also be working with our R&D team on both defining and implementing the next generation of Tally robots.
Responsibilities
- Evaluating third-party ROS packages for integration into our stack
- Working on new localization and SLAM algorithms
- Making our robots better aware of humans by implementing HRI-friendly behaviors to get out of their way
- Enhancing robot perception with better awareness of non-static (moving) obstacles
- Developing new algorithms for smoother, more efficient, and more accurate navigation
- Testing and integrating new hardware components including new sensors that will go into the next generation of Tally
- Assist in finishing our migration from ROS1 to ROS2
- Help in creating new hardware and software products from Simbe.
Required Qualifications
- BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science or related field highly recommended but not required
- Extremely adept in C++ and Python programming
- Extensive experience with the Robot Operating System (ROS), preferably both ROS1 and ROS2 though one or the other is sufficient.
- Experience with the ROS navigation stack
- Experience writing ROS nodes including drivers for new hardware
- Experience working with Ubuntu or other Debian-based Linux distributions
- Experience working ROS-based robots such as TurtleBot
- Experience working with LIDAR and/or RGBD (e.g. Intel Realsense) sensors
- Deep understanding of robotics, machine learning, and/or computer vision algorithms recommended but not required
- Comfortable reviewing the literature on state-of-the-art robotics and ML algorithms applicable to our problems
- Ability to evaluate third-party ROS packages for integration into our stack
- Well-versed in source control systems, particularly Git
- Proficient in shell scripting, preferably with Bash and Python
- Familiarity working with Docker containers recommended
- Familiarity with modern software development methodologies (e.g. continuous integration/deployment, scrum, automated regression testing)
