As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, as an MRE Electrochemical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in all phases of our MRE reactor development, including designing experimental test campaigns, cell prototype design, electrochemical testing, and electrochemical model development.

In this hands-on role, you will work entirely onsite at our Los Angeles Facility with the Space Resources Program team. We are seeking a dynamic R&D Electrochemical Engineer to join our hands-on Technology Development team.
You will play a crucial role in all phases of our MRE reactor development, including designing experimental test campaigns, cell prototype design, electrochemical testing, and electrochemical model development.
The successful candidate will focus on pushing the boundaries of our MRE technology and implementing lessons learned into integrated systems. This role requires exceptional knowledge of electrochemical principles and the state-of-the-art in ultra-high temperature electrolysis processes.
We work in fast-paced cycles of design, analysis, and Integration to deliver a scalable solution. We're looking for someone adaptable, willing to take action, eager to learn, and committed to safety and quality. Your creativity, innovative spirit, and ability to navigate changing requirements are crucial.
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of a Ph.D. degree in Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Science, or an equivalent technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant field.
- In-depth understanding of electrochemical principles and their application.
- Proven hands-on experience building electrochemical cells.
- Proven experience using potentiostat and electrochemical analysis techniques such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry.
- Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB and /or Python.
- In-depth knowledge of molten oxide electrolysis or molten regolith electrolysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently to identify and implement technical solutions while working to implement those solutions with a broader team.
- Proven ability to ensure timely completion of tasks and communicate schedule and budget risks with stakeholders.
- Experience in collaborating with multiple teams and aligning with overall business objectives.
- Capability to identify improvement opportunities and develop detailed improvement plans.
- Proven ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion.
- Capacity to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e. current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience using thermodynamic modeling software such as FactSage or Thermo-Calc.
- Familiarity with extractive metallurgy technologies.
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical reactor design and scaling.
- Familiarity with material characterization tools such as micro-CT, XRD, SEM, XRF.
- Experience in the aerospace technology development environment.
- Experience in designing and building prototype reactors for commercial applications.
