Lead Scala Software Engineer
BigCommerce is looking for a Lead Software Engineer (Scala) for API Platform team.
This growing team is looking for an engineer with a strong technical background who will focus on improving the performance, reliability, and features of our API Platform. We use technologies like Scala, gRPC, service mesh, Docker to build one of the fastest and most reliable ecommerce platforms in the world.

What You’ll Do:
- Build highly-available, high-performance, redundant, and scalable distributed systems in a polyglot environment
- Lead technical discussions of new solutions and architectures
- Drive our technical roadmap and direction of our stack
- Advocate for modern development practices and tools
- Encourage innovation and foster an environment of continuous improvement
- Mentor, coach engineers up to a senior level
- Provide insightful code reviews
- Ensure that technical decisions support our goals of quality, performance, scalability, reliability, availability, and security
- Support an open, positive, and energized culture
- Collaborate with the teams located across the Globe
Who You Are:
- 7+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer
- 2+ years of Scala in a production environment, performance monitoring and tuning is a plus
- Knowledge of object-oriented and functional programming techniques
- Experience monitoring and operating microservices
- Knowledge of highly scalable architectures
- Write code that is performant, fault-tolerant, maintainable, testable and concise
- Have great attention to detail
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and ticketing systems such as JIRA
- Professional experience with PHP or Javascript is a plus
