Klaviyo operates a real-time data platform built for massive scale on Amazon Web Services (AWS). Engineers come to Klaviyo with experience in a variety of languages and from a number of disciplines.
Area Overview:
The Data Platform area provides the necessary infrastructure, tools and service to efficiently process, store, manage and analyze PBs of data. This data creates the foundation of Klaviyo’s technical functionality and is leveraged by our internal application, data science, and business intelligence organizations to generate data-driven insights for our customers.
Responsibilities:
As a Lead Data Engineer II for the Data Platform, you will be responsible for defining the technical vision, feature set, and overall experience for Klaviyo’s Data Platform. You will bring industry expertise and a developer-focused perspective to the area; perpetuating a culture of data at scale for our data engineering, application, data science and business intelligence teams. You’ll push the area to focus on the use-cases that enable optimal data interactions, and work with the leads of the area’s teams to ensure the delivery of engineering design, and subsequent execution to get these efforts in the hands of our stakeholders while building towards your technical vision.
The Data Platform area accelerates the organizations’ ability to intelligently transform the business with quality data, industry solutions and an intuitive platform. You’ll drive the team to deliver enterprise-level solutions leveraging industry standard practices. Our developers treat the Data Platform as their trusted partner to enable growth and solve their most critical business problems.

Required Skills:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
- 12 years of experience in software development, and strong knowledge of computer science fundamentals
- 8 years of experience testing, developing, and launching software products, and 5 years of experience with software design and architecture
- 4 years of experience disseminating a technical vision through multiple scrum teams.
- Hands-on experience designing reliable, fault-tolerant, and high performance distributed systems
- Proven ability to come up to speed quickly
- Experience applying multi-dimensional data models to analytical data for optimal storage and retrieval

- Data Vault
- Knowledge of data algorithms and database internals. Examples include:
- Building stream/batch processing applications
- Understanding of search, range or probabilistic indices
- Knowledge of B / LSM Trees
- 4+ years of professional experience using:
- Hudi or Delta Lake
- Clickhouse, Druid, Pinot or similar.
- Cloud-based DFS (eg. AWS S3, Google Storage Buckets, Azure Blob Storage)
Preferred Skills:
- 8 years of experience in an architectural role leading project teams and setting technical vision
- 6 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional teams
- 4+ years of experience applying multi-dimensional data modeling for optimal storage and retrieval

- 4+ years of experience designing systems leveraging:
