Lyft is looking for experienced, product-focused software engineers for our Rider Team. We are growing our team with people who want to build, improve, and incorporate technologies that enrich the lives of our community. As an engineer at Lyft, you'll collaborate with teams like product, data science, analytics, and operations on code that empowers us to iterate quickly while focusing on delighting our passengers and drivers.
As a Senior Software Engineer for Rider, you will lead workstreams that improve riders' experience with rideshare. In addition, you will focus on incentivizing riders to prefer Lyft, build differentiated features for specific use cases like travel, commute & social, and integrate strategic partners into the Lyft rideshare ecosystem. As an engineer on our team, you'll work hand in hand with various teams across Lyft, fostering collaboration and driving innovation to increase the adoption & usage of Lyft.
Responsibilities:
- Help define the roadmap and architecture based on technology and business needs
- Lead large projects from idea to positive execution
- Write well-crafted, well-tested, readable, maintainable code
- Incorporate considerations for business context and failure modes in your work
- Proactively participate in resolving ongoing incidents
- Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and distribute knowledge
- Share your knowledge by giving brown bags, tech talks, and promoting appropriate tech and engineering best practices
- Unblock, support and communicate with internal partners to achieve results
Experience:
- 5+ years of software engineering industry experience with a high level programming language (bonus points for experience with Python or Go)
- BS/MS or equivalent in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or relevant work experience
- Experience defining API schemas and developing backend services in a microservices environment
- Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL
- Experience writing clear and scalable design documentation
- Experience designing, building and improving a set of team owned components
- When facing a problem that's poorly defined or outside of your expertise, you can quickly learn what you need to dig in, make sense of the problem, and start working towards a solution
- You're a great communicator, and can advocate for your proposals while also empathizing with your teammates' goals and priorities
- You have a history of going out of your way to help out your fellow engineer to make them more productive

This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year.
