JOB DESCRIPTION
The Sales Engineer is responsible for revenue and profit growth of OBR Cooling Towers in the Southwest region. The Sales Engineer is expected to continue relationships with existing customers and provide growth through both the development of existing customers and the acquisition of new customers by delivering sales, construction services, and parts to OBR customers. The successful candidate will perform business development activities, meet with customers to discuss cooling tower conditions, repairs, upgrades and parts, prepare estimates and assist with project management functions. Field inspections will be required, including entering cooling tower facilities, assessing tower conditions, preparing finding reports, developing scopes of work, and effectively communicating the information to clients. This position requires travel based on business needs as well as time in the office managing administrative tasks for sales activities and project planning. The Sales Engineer position is a salary position with potential for additional performance-based compensation, including commission.
ROLES/TASKS OF THE POSITION
- Targeted growth of assigned territory including identifying targets for new business in the region.
- Work closely with current and potential customers to understand their cooling tower needs, recommend improvements, and develop plans of action.
- Maintain customer satisfaction in region by identifying and resolving customer issues.
- Provide technical support by troubleshooting cooling tower issues and identifying site process issues.
- Develop strategies for quoting opportunities.
- Visit sites as needed for quoting and job execution.
- Assess specific site access and safety requirements and communicate then with OBR construction and safety.
- Assist with scheduling of jobs and crews within the assigned region; manage the schedule and communicate assignments, dates, times, and expectations with customers and crews.
- Admin related to scheduling including the following:
- OBR job number assignment and documentation
- Expenses reported monthly
- Communication/Meetings as needed or scheduled
- Microsoft Outlook email, calendar, invites, etc.
- Top Builder and Viewpoint user
- Assist with development of site-specific safety and quality documentation.
- Develop professional relationships with customers including plant and facility management.
- Estimate projects, create proposals, and present proposals to customers.
- Represent OBR at meetings, trainings, trade shows, etc.
- Maintain a positive attitude and work well with others within the organization, including design/drafting, project engineering, safety, quality, and accounting.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Engineering degree: mechanical, civil, or structural engineer required.
- Industrial experience including knowledge of cooling towers preferred.
- Experience generating sales, P&L management and maintaining accounts.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Good organizational skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Fluent in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.
- Self-starter with willingness to learn, collaborate, contribute, and work with a sense of urgency.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license, pass a drug test including hair follicle, and undergo background checks.

- Overnight travel required.
- Working in hot, humid environments. Willing to visit and work (short term) in industrial environments including power plants and refineries.
- This position requires work in both office and field (industrial plant) environments.
- Must be able to safely climb structures/work at heights. Includes wearing fall protection harness and other fall protection devices.
- Lifting of up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing (stairs and structures, and stooping.
- Keyboarding/typing.
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or paper copy.
- Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
- Ability to pass pulmonary function and fit testing as required for occasional respirator usage.
- Ability to pass drug tests and participate in random drug testing programs.
