This is a permanent role for the remainder of this Senedd term (until 2026) with an option to extend in future. This role is also available as a secondment for Welsh public sector employees. Please follow your own organisation’s policy on informing and getting permission from line managers.
The ability to speak and write Welsh, or a willingness to learn Welsh, is desirable. We will judge applications submitted in Welsh or English equally.

The Role
As the Finance Assistant, you will provide support in our day-to-day operations of the finance department. This role involves working closely with the Finance Officer to provide departments with a high-quality service.
What you’ll do
You will:
- manage day to day bookkeeping duties including:
- maintaining and sustaining the purchase ledger, in line with CDPS delegated authority policy
- monitoring of bank account and bank reconciliations
- maintaining and sustaining the sales ledger including credit control when required
- raise POs when required and assist with monitoring of PO system
- prepare and upload the bank of weekly payment, monthly staff salary payments and staff expenses
- support with annual external and internal audits
- support the production of monthly and quarterly financial reports
- be the first point of contact to employees to help them understand our finance processes
- ensure all financial data is up to date and in accordance with GDPR
- provide general ad-hoc support to the operations team
Who you are
You will:
- have attention to detail, to ensure all CDPS finances are complete, accurate and up to date
- have excellent organisational, time management and administrative skills, including the ability to manage and prioritise a busy workload to meet deadlines
- have excellent interpersonal skills, a positive colleague-focused approach and are a team player
- enjoy working in a busy remote environment and can respond positively to change
- be able to support a range of financial processes and review financial information
- demonstrate ability to work effectively within a team, and the ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels
- be flexible and willing to develop skills in the role
Essential requirements
- Minimum 1 year’s relevant finance experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and cloud-based accounting systems.
Desirable requirements
- AAT qualified to level 2 or studying AAT or bookkeeping qualification equivalent.
